HC Deb 26 March 1986 vol 94 c468W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why, in view of the level of unemployment in London, the Metropolitan police are advertising directly for traffic wardens; and what use is being made of jobcentres for this purpose.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The Commissioner informs me that direct recruitment advertising for traffic wardens is generally the most cost-effective method of attracting suitable applicants, but the Metropolitan police also advertise through jobcentres in areas where there are particular shortages of traffic wardens.
