HC Deb 26 March 1986 vol 94 c494W
Sir David Price

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what effect he expects the tax proposals in the Budget to have on the flow of private funds into the conservation of both the natural and man-made heritage; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Rumbold

Charitable giving is likely to increase by at least 120 million a year as a result of the imaginative innovations in my right hon. Friend's Budget. This will be more cost-effective than equivalent state help. What share of the eventual total will go to the natural and man-made heritage will depend upon givers' preferences. I would warmly encourage as many people as possible to show their concern for the heritage in this way.
