§ Mr. Murphyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's policy towards Namibian independence following the recent United Nations Security Council debate, and on tie role of the Contact Group of Nations.
§ Mrs. ChalkerWe remain committed to United Nations Security Council resolution (SCR) 435, the internationally agreed basis for a Namibia settlement, and we support the current negotiations aimed at achieving its implementation.
The Contact Group has no active role at present, but stands ready to help where this would be constructive.
