asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many manufacturing jobs have been lost in Scotland in each of the past six years.

The number of employees in employment in manufacturing in Scotland is estimated to have declined as shown in the table.

Comprehensive estimates of job creation in manufacturing industries in Scotland are not available. New jobs associated with offers of regional selective assistance (RSA) to manufacturing firms in Scotland in the current year and for each of the six past calendar years are given in the table. These are in addition to offers of RSA which have been made to safeguard existing employment in Scotland.
