HC Deb 26 March 1986 vol 94 cc506-7W
36. Mr. McTaggart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much money the Scottish Office has made available to health boards for the specific purpose of tackling drugs misuse.

Mr. John MacKay

Services for the treatment of drug misusers are usually provided as part of the general practitioner and hospital and community-based services, and the expenditure incurred by health boards in providing treatment specifically for drug misusers cannot be separately identified. My right hon. and learned Friend has, however, already made available over £1 million to provide support for a range of local initiatives by health boards, local authorities and voluntary organisations which are specifically concerned with the treatment and rehabilitation of drug misusers. Support for these projects from the health programme in the financial year 1986–87 will amount to about £700,000 and it is planned to maintain at about this level annually the amount of resources set aside for the encouragement and assistance of drug treatment and rehabilitation services.
