§ Mr. WhitneyIn general mothers should be able to give birth to their baby in whatever way they choose, so long as it is compatible with safety. Health authorities must decide in the light of staff and resources available, what special facilities can and should be provided to meet mothers' preferences for care during childbirth. The Maternity Services Advisory Committee offered advice on aspects of this care in its second report, which was published in January 1984.
