HC Deb 21 March 1986 vol 94 cc302-3W
Ms. Richardson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many men are currently imprisoned in the United Kingdom for consenting homosexual acts with males between the ages of 16 and 21 years; and what are the minimum and maximum sentences being served by such men.

Mr. Mellor

Information available centrally, which may be incomplete, is for England and Wales only and relates to offenders over the age of 21 given a custodial sentence for a consenting homosexual offence with males between the ages of 16 and 21. In 1984 33 offenders were so sentenced; the shortest sentence imposed was three weeks and the longest four and a half years; the average sentence was almost 20 months. Corresponding information on those serving custodial sentences is not recorded centrally.
