HL Deb 19 March 1986 vol 472 cc1039-40WA
Lord Boyd-Carpenter

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What arrangements have been made to provide information about the implementation of the Local Government Act 1985.

The Minister of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Elton)

A circular has today been issued to all borough and district councils in Greater London and the metropolitan counties and to other successor authorities. It provides a guide to the Act and describes the steps taken towards its implementation, including in particular matters which were not settled by the Act itself and details of joint arrangements now being made by successor authorities of which the Government have been informed. I have arranged for copies of the circular to be placed in the Library. We have also recently issued an Explanatory Memorandum on the compensation and early release arrangements for staff affected by the Act. Copies of this have also been placed in the Library.
