HC Deb 19 March 1986 vol 94 c199W
Mr. Stuart Holland

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimate he has made of staffing requirements for the immigration service to deal with persons arriving at Waterloo station on trains using the Channel fixed link.

Mr. Waddington

No decisions have yet been taken about the methods by which immigration control will be exercised over passengers using the Channel fixed link.

Mr. Stuart Holland

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimate he has made of staffing requirements for the Metropolitan police as a result of increased traffic flow generated by passengers arriving at Waterloo on trains using the Channel fixed link.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I understand that the Metropolitan police have not so far considered what impact, if any, the Channel fixed link might have on traffic levels in the vicinity of Waterloo station or on their work load. The policing of the station itself is the responsibility of the British Transport police.
