§ Mr. Cashasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he is taking in the Council of Ministers of the European Economic Community and in the United Kingdom to evaluate the use of nitrogen fertiliser and other means of expanding production and its effects on levels of production on different types of land; what meetings have taken place; what official papers have been written on the subject; and if he will lay such papers in the Library.
§ Mrs. FennerSuch evaluation involves technical assessments, the consideration of which can best be undertaken at national level. My own Department devotes considerable research and advisory effort to the efficient use of nitrogen fertiliser and issues publications on the216W subject from time to time. As an example, I am placing a copy of ADAS reference book 209 "Fertilizer recommendations 1985–86" in the Library of the House. There have been no discussions on the use of nitrogen fertilizers and other means of expanding agricultural production nor on its effects on levels of production on different types of land within the Council of Ministers.
