Mr. Barnett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many observation and assessment centres there are in (a) England and (b) Wales; and what were the equivalent figures in 1980;

(2) how many observation and assessment centre places are available on average per local authority in England and Wales possessing a social service function; and what was the equivalent figure for 1980.
