HC Deb 17 March 1986 vol 94 c26W
Sir David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his preliminary estimate of the amount of damage done to the roads, the railways, the ports and the airports of the United Kingdom as a result of the current year's exceptionally cold weather.

Mr. Ridley

No reports of exceptional damage to roads have so far been received. However, their general condition is monitored regularly and the results are taken into account in determining the provision of funds for maintenance. It is for the appropriate operator to assess any damage caused to railways, ports and airports. I am not aware of exceptional problems.
