HC Deb 17 March 1986 vol 94 cc21-2W
26. Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what investment he has approved by London Regional Transport for modernisation.

Mr. David Mitchell

The approved external finance limit for 1985–86 allows for LRT to spend £230 million on investment in renewing and modernising the system. My Department is contributing £193 million in grant towards that programme. In 1986–87 capital grants will be increased to £216 million to support a planned investment programme worth £261 million. Significant projects approved during 1985–86 include the purchase of 260 new buses, the introduction of an automatic ticketing system on the Underground, modernisation of Bank station and comprehensive renewal of the Underground's power supply.
