asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if United Kingdom representatives attending the judicial sub-committee set up at January's Anglo-Irish meeting will raise the subject of the use of uncorroborated evidence in no-jury courts; if he has any information as to whether representatives from the Republic of Ireland will seek to raise this subject; and if he will make a statement.

The legal sub-group of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference met on 13 February. A copy has been placed in the Library.

At the meeting of the legal sub-group of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference on 13 February, Ministers authorised further work by officials on matters of mutual concern, including the search for measures to enhance public confidence in the administration of justice. This work is still in hand.
