Mr. Tom Cox

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the number of grants being given by his Department towards the education costs of studying in the United Kingdom to students from the Sudan and Somalia.

Mr. Raison

By 31 December 1985, 271 students from the Sudan and 57 from Somalia had been awarded grants during the financial year 1985–86 to study in Britain.
