* Qualified leavers are those leaving school or further education colleges with at least 2 GCE A levels, or 3 Scottish Higher Certificates.
† The Qualified Leavers Index (QLI) consists of the proportion of the age group who obtained 2 or more A levels, or their Scottish equivalent.
‡ Aged under 21 in the year of entry.
║ The Age Participation Index (API) is defined as the number of young home initial entrants expressed as a percentage of the "relevant age group", being the average of the number of 18 years olds and number of 19 year olds in the population as at 31 December of the year of entry. This measure has replaced the previously used age participation rate (APR) based solely upon 18 year olds.
¶ The Qualified Participation Index (QPI) is defined as the number of young home initial entrants whether qualified or not expressed as a percentage of the numbers of qualified school and FE leavers (this measure was known formerly as the qualified participation rate).
