Mr. Pawsey

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will give the total number of grammar schools in the United Kingdom; and what percentage this represents of all secondary schools in the United Kingdom.

In January 1985 there were 194 grammar schools in the United Kingdom, accounting for nearly 4 per cent. of all public sector secondary schools.
