§ Mr. Strawasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he has any plans to use his powers under part II of the Rates Act 1984 in respect of rate limitation for the financial year 1987–88.
§ Mr. WaldegraveMy right hon. Friend will be announcing his proposals for selective rate limitation in 1987–88 before the summer recess. As the hon. Member is aware, a proposal to introduce general rate limitation would require consultation with the local authority associations and be subject to the approval of both Houses of Parliament.
