HC Deb 25 June 1986 vol 100 cc230-1W
62. Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many reports he has received of nitrate levels in public water supplies exceeding the statutory limit of 50 mg in the most recent 12-month period for which figures are available; and if there are any indications of the general level of nitrate pollution being reduced.

Mr. John Patten

Reports have been received of 81 public water supplies where nitrate concentrations exceeded 50 mg/litre at some time during 1984. In the last few years there have been some indications of a levelling off in nitrate concentrations in surface waters.
