§ Mr. Roy Jenkinsasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what assessment has been made of the relative 207W financial consequences to the Scottish Education Department if the physical education training of secondary teachers in Scotland was to be (a) concentrated in one institution in the east of Scotland, (b) concentrated in one institution in the west of Scotland or (c) continued to be provided both in the east and west of Scotland but with male and female teachers on each site.
§ Mr. RifkindI am at present considering future arrangements for the training of physical education teachers, including relevant educational and financial factors, in the light of(a) the requirement under section 4 of the Further Education Act 1985 to end the separate training of men and women, and (b) the recommendation in the report by the Scottish Tertiary Education Advisory Council (Cmnd. 9676) for wider rationalisation of the teacher training sector. I shall make a further statement in due course.
