HC Deb 23 June 1986 vol 100 c62W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information he has about the incidence of smoking in each European Economic Community country for the five years up to the last year for which figures are available.

Mr. Whitney

Information appears in tables 7 and 8 of "Statistics on Smoking in the member states of the Community" published by the European Commission, copies of which are in the Library. Latest figures for Great Britain show a further fall in cigarette smoking prevalence for men from 52 per cent. in 1972 to 36 per cent. in 1984, and for women from 41 per cent. to 32 per cent.
