HC Deb 23 June 1986 vol 100 cc62-3W
Mr. Ashdown

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the progress of research projects commissioned to implement the recommendations numbered 1 to 4 of the report of the advisory group, chaired by Sir Douglas Black, on the incidence of cancer in West Cumbria; and when the findings of each research project are likely to be received by his Department.

Mr. Ray Whitney

We are generally satisfied with the progress of these studies. We are advised however that collection of the data required for the studies to implement recommendations 1, 2 and 3 has proved to be more complicated than was expected. Consequently, these studies will be completed later than was originally anticipated. We understand that the report of the study implementing recommendation 1 should be received by the Department during the second half of 1987 and those from the studies implementing recommendations 2 and 3 should be received in the autumn of this year. The work on recommendation 4 is proceeding to schedule.
