§ Mr. Ashdownasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he is satisfied with the progress of research projects commissioned to implement the recommendations numbered 1 to 4 of the report of the advisory group, chaired by Sir Douglas Black, on the incidence of cancer in West Cumbria; and when the findings of each research project are likely to be received by his Department.
63W
§ Mr. Ray WhitneyWe are generally satisfied with the progress of these studies. We are advised however that collection of the data required for the studies to implement recommendations 1, 2 and 3 has proved to be more complicated than was expected. Consequently, these studies will be completed later than was originally anticipated. We understand that the report of the study implementing recommendation 1 should be received by the Department during the second half of 1987 and those from the studies implementing recommendations 2 and 3 should be received in the autumn of this year. The work on recommendation 4 is proceeding to schedule.
