HC Deb 23 June 1986 vol 100 cc40-1W
Mr. Alexander

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what recent discussions he has had with the Japanese Government about that country's economic outlook in respect of British exports being accepted without unfair restrictions; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Clark

The European Community continues to press the Japanese Government for the implementation of the various market-opening measures that they have announced. A particular objective at the United Kingdom's forthcoming presidency of the Community will be to give this added impetus. In addition my Department's new unfair trade unit will be closely monitoring specific cases of unfair trading and pursuing such cases vigorously where appropriate.
