HL Deb 12 June 1986 vol 476 c500WA
Lord Beswick

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will now call in all the schemes submitted to the London Borough of Merton for the proposed redevelopment of the Town Hall/Queens Road site in Wimbledon; and whether they will take into consideration that support for such a course of action, including a decision of the Secretary of State, has been expressed by 3,700 petitioners, in 450 individual letters, and in representations from the Wimbledon Society, the John Innes Society, the Civic Trust, the Victorian Society and the local Conservation Areas Advisory Committee.

The Minister of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Elton)

Two planning applications submitted to the London Borough of Merton by Speyhawk plc for the redevelopment of the site presently occupied by Wimbledon Town Hall and adjacent buildings were referred as departures from the initial development plan to my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Environment. My right honourable friend announced yesterday his decision to call in the applications for his own determination.
