HC Deb 12 June 1986 vol 99 c278W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what are the most recent figures for spending per school pupil in schools in the United Kingdom; and what information he has about the equivalent figures for France, Japan and the United States of America.

Mr. Dunn

[pursuant to his reply, 13 May 1986, c. 434]The figures for France, Japan and the United States of America had not been put on a common price basis. The table presents the correct figures for first level (primary) and second level (secondary and non-advanced further education) education. Pre first level education (nursery) has been excluded due to difficulties for comparability with full-time equivalent pupil numbers and private funding. Figures for West Germany has also been included as of general interest.
