§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what are the most recent figures for spending per school pupil in schools in the United Kingdom; and what information he has about the equivalent figures for France, Japan and the United States of America.
§ Mr. Dunn[pursuant to his reply, 13 May 1986, c. 434]The figures for France, Japan and the United States of America had not been put on a common price basis. The table presents the correct figures for first level (primary) and second level (secondary and non-advanced further education) education. Pre first level education (nursery) has been excluded due to difficulties for comparability with full-time equivalent pupil numbers and private funding. Figures for West Germany has also been included as of general interest.
