HC Deb 12 June 1986 vol 99 c278W
12. Mr. Caborn

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what conclusions he draws from the speed with which his Ministry reacted to the Chernobyl disaster.

Mr. Jopling

I am satisfied that my Department made a prompt and realistic assessment of the implications of the Chernobyl nuclear accident for food and agriculture in England and Wales.

26. Mr. Meadowcroft

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the effect of the Chernobyl disaster on surplus stocks of cereals, dairy products and meat in store in the European Community.

Mr. Gummer

It is too early to say what the eventual market effects of the disaster may be.
