HC Deb 12 June 1986 vol 99 c268W
Mr. Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will quantify, in millions of pounds, the savings to the United Kingdom's energy bill after 10 years if all new houses were built to the insulation standards currently applied to Danish housing.

Mr. David Hunt

I refer the hon. Member to my answer on 20 March 1986, at columns256–57. The variation in patterns of household energy use preclude a more precise estimate.

Mr. Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will estimate the saving in the United Kingdom's energy bill from improving all existing buildings to the thermal insulation levels laid down in the building regulations and building new buildings to the same standard.

Mr. David Hunt

The proportional saving likely to be realised in the United Kingdom's energy bill from improving all existing houses to the thermal insulation levels laid down in the building regulations is estimated to be 5 per cent. The saving arising from other buildings is more difficult to estimate but would be in the region of an additional 2 per cent.
