§ Mr. MellorAn extension of Leeds prison is to be built on land acquired from the city council. Preliminary plans have been prepared and planning clearance obtained for a new living unit of 444 places together with a new entry complex and other modern facilities for the prison. Some advance works have been undertaken, including the provision of a new car park. and modifications to the services to the prison are planned for early 1987. It is proposed to appoint consultant architects to take the main scheme to the advanced planning stage shortly.
