HC Deb 09 June 1986 vol 99 c11W
Mr. Heddle

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has received any recent representations seeking the amendment or repeal of the Remuneration of Teachers Act; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chris Patten

The most recent representation received on this subject was from the local authority associations in a letter dated 3 February 1986, which argued for the repeal of the RTA to allow the creation of new negotiating machinery linking teachers' pay with other conditions of service. The issue is currently under consideration in the talks at ACAS between management and unions.
