Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what will be the extent of extra resources promised to facilitate the introduction of the general certificate of secondary education examination in Wales.

Considerable resources have already been made available, but the Government have undertaken to examine, as a matter of priority, the case for some additional resources.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many representations he has received concerning the introduction of the general certificate of secondary education in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Representations have been received from 18 Members of Parliament, three county councils, one local education authority, the Local Authorities Committee of the WJEC, the Assistant Masters' and Mistresses' Association, two county groups of secondary headteachers, two county branches of the National Association of Schoolmasters/Union of Women Teachers, the governing bodies of 23 county secondary schools, 3 federations of parent teacher associations, 13 individual parent teachers associations, 14 heads of school departments, five teachers, one school governor, three school associations, one teachers' organisation, one school parents' association, the Welsh SDP Conference, one constituency party, the PAT (Wales) Committee and 165 individuals, all requesting postponement.
