HC Deb 03 June 1986 vol 98 c414W
Sir Anthony Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the policy of Her Majesty's Government towards the enlargement of the Western European Union; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

At their meeting in Venice on 29–30 April, WEU Ministers agreed that the new institutional arrangements approved at the Council meeting in Bonn in April 1985 should be allowed to run until the end of 1987, when a review of the structure and operation of the organisation will take place. At that time member Governments will be able to assess the achievements of the WEU's reactivation and the way ahead. We support this approach.
