HC Deb 03 June 1986 vol 98 c414W
Dr. Marek

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, pursuant to the answer of 19 May, Official Report, columns 17–18, he will state the number of families concerned; whether there is any maximum school fee per child set by his Department; and what is the highest fee paid.

Mr. Eggar

In the financial year 1985–86, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office paid boarding school allowance to 562 officers serving overseas. The FCO pays an allowance towards both fees and board and lodging costs charged by schools. The maximum allowance currently paid is £1,553.08 per term for boys at senior schools. Any costs in excess of these allowances have to be met by officers themselves.
