§ Mr. EggarIn the financial year 1985–86, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office paid boarding school allowance to 562 officers serving overseas. The FCO pays an allowance towards both fees and board and lodging costs charged by schools. The maximum allowance currently paid is £1,553.08 per term for boys at senior schools. Any costs in excess of these allowances have to be met by officers themselves.
