HC Deb 03 June 1986 vol 98 c545W
Mr. Galley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the role of and the budget provided for the National Health Service training authority.

Mr. Whitney

The role of the authority is to identify the training needs of National Health Service staff in England and Wales; to formulate, co-ordinate and develop national training policies and standards; to provide, or make arrangements for the provision of, training programmes, courses and research; to stimulate, monitor and review training activities; and to advise the Secretary of State and health authorities on all matters related to training. The authority covers the training needs of all National Health Service staff, except for those for whom another statutory body has responsibilities for training. The authority's budget for 1986–87 is £4.734 million.
