HL Deb 30 July 1986 vol 479 c976WA
Lord Moran

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is true, as asserted by Mary Holland in the Irish Times of Dublin of 16th July, that one of Her Majesty's Ministers told her recently that, "he believed there was one overriding criterion by which the Anglo-Irish Agreement should now be judged: that by the end of this summer the Unionists would have been confronted once and for all," and that, "their will would have been broken".

Viscount Long

We have no knowledge of any such statement. Moreover it in no way reflects the Government's view.
