§ Mr. D. E. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will outline the nature and extent of the review of his Department's peacetime emergency plans following the Chernobyl disaster; whether, when completed, he will publish it; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. GoodladThe Department's plans and procedures for civil nuclear emergencies are kept under constant review, and are regularly tested. They are being examined in the light of the Chernobyl accident.
Information and advice on the response to a nuclear incident is contained in a booklet published by the Health and Safety Executive entitled "Emergency Plans for Civil Nuclear Installations". More detailed plans and procedures are formulated and held by site operators, and these are updated as necessary.
