HC Deb 25 July 1986 vol 102 c721W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what proportion of home helps employed by local authorities are from the ethnic minorities.

Mr. Whitney

Figures are not collected centrally to provide this information.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what proportion of home helps currently in post have received any form of training; and if he will make a statement on the type of training generally offered;

(2) what proportion of home care organisers employed by local authorities hold (a) the CSS qualification, (b) the CQSW qualification, (c) the local government training board diploma in domiciliary-care management or its earlier IHHO equivalent; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Whitney

Local social services authorities in England have responsibility for the training of their home helps and home help organisers and it is normal practice for newly recruited home helps to receive some in-service training. No figures are collected centrally to show the numbers in post who have received training. The local government training board has recently developed a new diploma in domiciliary care management and training material for home help organisers and home helps.
