§ Mr. Gordon Brownasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the top 50 United Kingdom private sector employers, excluding companies engaged in banking, finance or insurance, showing in each case the number of employees employed in the United Kingdom and giving available information about part-time workers.
§ Mr. HowardFollowing the Companies Act 1981, companies are required to report their total employment whether in the United Kingdom or abroad. For the last available information on United Kingdom employment I would refer the hon. Gentleman to the answer my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Industry gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Wiltshire, North (Mr. Needham) on 29 March 1984 at columns 257–60.
