§ Mr. Kaufmanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will call for reports from chief constables in Scotland to establish the number of police officers and civil staff engaged full time on the investigation of complaints against the police in 1985, and the cost of such investigations, in a form comparable to the figures quoted on page 85 of the 1985 Report of the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis.
§ Mr. John MacKayNo police officers or civilian staff were engaged exclusively on the investigation of complaints against the police in Scotland in 1985. However, five of the eight Scottish forces have full-time branches dealing with complaints and disciplinary matters and at 31 December 1985 some 30 police and civilian staff were so engaged. It is not feasible to identify separately the costs of the complaints function of these branches.
