§ Mr. Lathamasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether, pursuant to the letter to the hon. Member for Rutland and Melton from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, the hon. Member for Buckingham (Mr. Walden) dated 10 April, he is now in a position to give further details of his discussions and correspondence with the chairman of the Natural Environment Research Council regarding the British Nationality Act 1981.
§ Mr. WaldenI wrote to the chairman of the Natural Environment Research Council on 10 March agreeing with him that we must try to resolve the outstanding problems regarding designation under section 2(3) of the British Nationality Act 1981. My officials have had discussions with officers in the Natural Environment Research Council and the other research councils concerned. Consultations with officers in the Home Office are continuing on how best to reach a solution.
