§ Mr. McNamaraasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners in British jails give as their place of domicile (a) the Republic of Ireland and (b) Northern Ireland; and, in each case, how many of these prisoners are serving sentences for terrorist-type offences as at 30 June.
§ Mr. MellorThe information which is readily available centrally relates to prisoners' place of birth and to those terrorist-type prisoners who are held in category A. On 31 May 1986, 670 inmates of prison department establishments in England and Wales were recorded as born in the Republic of Ireland and about 330 in Northern Ireland. Of those, 13 born in the Republic of Ireland and 33 born in Northern Ireland had been convicted of terrorist-type offences and were held in category A.
