HC Deb 21 July 1986 vol 102 cc6-7W
Mr. Caborn

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will discuss with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority the termination of South Africa's associate membership of the United Kingdom Atomic energy Authority's systems reliability service.

Mr. Goodlad

It is our policy not to assist in any way South Africa's nuclear programmes. South African membership of the UKAEA's systems reliability service is not being renewed.

Mr. Caborn

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will give details of the controls introduced to enforce the ban on new contracts for the sale and export of nuclear goods, materials and technology to South Africa, as agreed in the Commonwealth accord on Southern Africa adopted on 20 October 1985.

Mr. Goodlad

It remains United Kingdom policy not to supply any materials or equipment to South Africa which would aid her nuclear programme. This policy is exercised through the Export of Goods (Control) Order 1985.
