HC Deb 21 July 1986 vol 102 cc23-4W
Mr. Best

asked the Secretary of State for Wales, further to his answer of 9 July to the hon. Member for Ynys Môn, if he will lift the ban on the sales of ewes, as distinct from lambs, in the those areas still affected by the ban.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

No. although the highest levels of radiocaesium have been found in young lambs, monitoring has also revealed some examples of high readings in ewes. Restrictions must continue in order to avoid the possibility of such animals entering the food chain.
