§ Mr. Freudasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement on the O-level pass rate expressed as a percentage of the total school population in England and Wales at the latest date for which figures are available.
§ Mr. DunnInformation is not available precisely in the form requested. However, the Department's school leavers sample survey estimates that 65 per cent. of the GCE O-level examinations, as taken by pupils of all ages who left school during the academic year 1984–85, were awarded at higher grades A-C. It is also estimated that 82 per cent. were awarded at grades A-E.
Information for Wales is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
