HC Deb 21 July 1986 vol 102 c58W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement on the O-level pass rate expressed as a percentage of the total school population in England and Wales at the latest date for which figures are available.

Mr. Dunn

Information is not available precisely in the form requested. However, the Department's school leavers sample survey estimates that 65 per cent. of the GCE O-level examinations, as taken by pupils of all ages who left school during the academic year 1984–85, were awarded at higher grades A-C. It is also estimated that 82 per cent. were awarded at grades A-E.

Information for Wales is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
