HC Deb 21 July 1986 vol 102 c78W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Paymaster General if he will estimate how many Irish nationals are currently working in the United Kingdom; and how many of these are drawing unemployment benefit.

Mr. Lang

Preliminary labour force survey results for the spring of 1985 indicate that there were about 268,000 persons of Irish nationality in employment in the United Kingdom. The number of those who reported that they were also claiming benefit was too small to be measurable by the labour force survey.
