§ Mr. Michael Marshallasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) if he will publish a breakdown of figures for spending on information technology related courses, separating computer science from mathematics, in universities, polytechnics and other institutions for the most recent years available;
(2) if he will publish figures on university spending on information technology-related courses in the most recent years available, separating computer science from mathematics.
§ Mr. WaldenDetails of expenditure on courses in universities and the public sector of higher education are not available centrally on the basis sought by my hon. Friend.
The Government have made additional funds available through the information technology and engineering and technology programme, to expand the provision of places on information technology-related courses; these will supplement the considerable teaching and research activity already taking place in both sectors of higher education.
