HC Deb 14 July 1986 vol 101 c339W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will estimate the total number of persons currently located in South Africa who would be eligible for registration to vote in the United Kingdom under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act 1985.

Mr. Mellor

My right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs gave figures for the British community in South Africa in his answer to my hon. Friend the Member for Elmet (Mr. Batiste) on 15 April at column380. We estimate that only a small proportion of those will qualify under the terms of the Representation of the People Act 1985.
