HL Deb 09 July 1986 vol 478 c447WA
Baroness Nicol

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they can reassure the people of Truro that the restriction that the container terminal will cause at the mouth of the estuary will not cause flooding in their city even in a combination of low pressure, southerly winds and spring tides.

The Earl of Caithness

I am not aware that these proposed works would have adverse effects on the city of Truro. The desk study undertaken by Hydraulics Research Limited at the request of the department examined the hydrological effects of Phase 1 of the scheme and concluded that hydraulic conditions at Truro would remain unaltered. This study was undertaken for the purpose of appraising the scheme's effects on navigation, but in view of public interest in its conclusions I am placing copies in the Library.
