Mr. Robin Cook

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) if he will publish in the Official Report a table listing education authorities by teacher- pupil ratio in secondary schools, primary schools and overall for the latest year for which figures are available;

(2) if he will publish in the Official Report the teacher-pupil ratio in secondary schools, primary schools and overall of (a) all the councils under Conservative control and (b) all the councils under Labour control for the latest year for which figures are available.

In January 1985, the latest date for which information is available, the pupil-teacher ratios in maintained primary and secondary schools, the overall pupil-teacher ratio for each local education authority, and an indication of the political control of each authority are given below:
