§ Mr. Michael SpicerAviation safety and standards are the statutory responsibility of the Civil Aviation Authority. The authority has kept me informed of its new regulations regarding the fire-resistance of aircraft seats and has confirmed that these regulations apply to the seat cushions and seat backs taken as a whole, rather than to the seat coverings. Equivalent requirements are being applied in the United States and most European countries and are expected to be adopted in other countries.
