§ Mr. Michael Cocksasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the original gravity of Whitbread Poacher bitter on which tax was levied when the beer was launched; what is the procedure for notifying changes in original gravity; and whether any such changes have been notified to his Department in respect of Poacher bitter.
§ Mr. BrookeThe original gravity of each brew is declared to customs and excise as the basis for calculating beer duty. I regret, however, that the Department cannot disclose such information relating to an individual taxpayer, which has been received in confidence.
